Educational Director –

The Friends of Crown Heights Educational Centers, Inc., (FOCH), is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Educational Director at two or more of our Early Childhood Education Centers. These full-time positions are open immediately. The successful candidates must possess the New York State Education Department’s teacher certification in Early Childhood Education (Birth to Second Grade), and a minimum of three years’ classroom experience as a Group Teacher in a licensed preschool program. Familiarity with the New York City ACS and/or UPK program operations and requirements will be considered a plus.

Job Description

The Friends of Crown Heights Educational Centers, Inc., is a leading not-for- profit provider of high-quality child care and Early Childhood Education services, including Universal Pre-K and other preschool programs for children aged 2-4 years old, as well as After-school programs for children aged 5-12 years old. 
 

The Educational Director is responsible for the overall administration of the Early Childhood Education Center. S/he directs and implements the curriculum and teaching process and is the principal liaison with all regulatory and oversight agencies including the NYC Department of Health, NYC Administration for Children’s Services and NYC Department of Education. S/he provides advice and training to teachers and support staff and ensures compliance with local, state and national standards. The Educational Director researches and selects textbooks and authorizes the purchase of supplies. Other duties include mentoring new teachers, designing and presenting professional development workshops and seminars and conducting classroom observations and evaluations. S/he is also responsible for maintaining all staff and student records and is additionally responsible for ensuring that all staff, consultants and volunteers deliver services in a manner that is culturally sensitive to our program participants, their families and the surrounding community.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education (Master’s preferred)
In addition to at least one of the following Teaching Certificates
Early Childhood (Birth – Grade 2)
Nursery, Kindergarten, Grades 1 – 6

In the event that the best candidate does not already possess the New York State School-Age Child Care (SACC) license, he or she will be required to complete the necessary coursework for site supervisors mandated under the SACC regulations.  

The Program Director / Educational Specialist will be responsible for overall program management, identifying and providing needed resources, and engaging families and the community. He or she will be the main contact person on programmatic matters with the funding agency (New York City Department of Youth and Community Development), and will liaise with all external agencies, including the Department of Education, the Health Department, Police Department and Fire Department. The Program Director / Educational Specialist will also develop and implement project-based curricula that foster the academic, social and emotional competencies and physical wellbeing of program participants.
